Q: Can our school afford your publishing services?

A: YES! I've done everything possible to offer my services and products at the lowest possible cost to schools and families and still cover my expenses. I want students to be able to see their names in print and have books of their own to keep forever!

Set-up fee: $300
Cover Price per book: $8.00
(plus shipping from printer)

Think about accessing Title I or grant funding to cover costs. One small school was able to buy a book for every child through a Target Literacy Grant.

GRANT FUNDING
FOR LITERACY AND THE ARTS

Many companies, organizations and foundations offer grant funding for arts and literacy projects in local schools. I've prepared a Grant Funding document with live links to web pages where you can find more information and application materials. Target is one of my favorites! If you have your materials gathered, the online application takes 20 minutes to fill out.

Some organizations accept applications only at specific times of the year (March, April and May for Target); others accept applications on an ongoing basis. Take advantage of these great opportunities to fund arts and literacy programs for your school.

Q: Is there a minimum order?

A: No. Because I use a print-on-demand model, the order I place with my printer is exactly what you order from me.

Q: How long will it take to have our books in hand?

A: Once I have all your student work submitted in the proper format, the design, prepress, printing and shipping process can take up to 10 weeks. You may have your books within 6 weeks, but plan for the longer time.

Q: How should the work be formatted and submitted?

A: Full color art must be scanned and saved as .jpg images at 300 dpi; line drawings must be scanned and saved as .jpg images at 600 dpi. Typed text must be in MS Word format; hand written text must be scanned and saved as .jpg images at 600 dpi.

All work must be submitted on CD's or a thumb drive and mailed to my office.

Q: What media can students use for their full color illustrations?

A: Anything that will scan well. Bright colors reproduce best: poster paints, colored felt tip markers, cut paper appliqué, etc. If students use crayons, watercolors or colored pencils, they should outline their drawings in black.

Line drawings and hand written text for black and white books should be rendered in black felt tip marker (e.g., a Sharpie Fine Point pen).

Q: How many pages can our book have?

A: All books must be at least 24 pages. Full-color books may have up to 36 pages. Black and white books may have up to 146 pages.

Q: We're excited! How do we get started?

A: Send me an e-mail! Type "Student Book" in the subject line. I'll send you a survey to find out exactly how you envision your student book. Before you know it, the publication process will be under way.
